ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC SCHOOL AWARDED $20K TOYOTA GRANT FOR PROJECT LEAD THE WAY-GATEWAY TO BENEFIT STEM PROGRAMS
St. Louis, MO, April 9, 2018– St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School announces Mr. Herries has won a $20,000 grant to expand our use of Project Lead the Way to the Middle School! We will receive $10,000 per year for the next two years to make that happen! We will be one of the only schools in the entire area to have PLTW for our students from Pre K to 8!
Watching our students work with Project Lead the Way is really awesome, they are sponges and pick up engineering design and the scientific method like they pick up eating ice cream with a spoon. I really enjoy doing what I am doing here (at SFA)… Mr. Herries, STREAM Coordinator at SFA
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School has been part of the Project Lead the Way-Launch program since 2016. Project Lead the Way-Launch is designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Project Lead the Way-Gateway extends the program to encompass grades 6th through 8th.
As a partner with Missouri University of Science and Technology (MO S&T, Rolla), PLTW students have exclusive access to a variety of recognition opportunities including scholarships, preferred admission at colleges and universities, internships, industry connections, and other avenues to highlight their achievements.
Congratulations!!! This is great news and helps to reinforce our decision to bring our daughters… to SFA for their primary education… Thank you (Mr. Herries) sincerely for your efforts and I look forward to seeing how this program progresses over the coming years. Dan Travers, Father of SFA Students
