Congratulations to Sarah Loscheider. She was awarded the Maestro Award winner in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Picture the Music contest. Picture the Music is a collaborative program between the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and school districts across Missouri and southern Illinois.
Picture the Music invites students in grades K-6 to discover an orchestral work and respond with paintings or drawings that express creative thought and emotion. This school year, students explored the fourth movement of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.
58 schools and more than 11,000 students participated this school year. 368 pieces of artwork were selected for final judging by a panel of six art professionals and retired art specialists. From this group, 100 finalists representing 45 schools were selected. The finalists were honored at the Picture the Music Awards Ceremony which took place on Wednesday, April 6, at Powell Hall. The top 100 pieces of artwork will now be open to the public and exhibited at the Magic House in Kirkwood, Mo., from April 7-20 and at Plaza Frontenac in Frontenac, Mo., from April 21-May 4.
